Leaving Cert student died when car lost control as he was driving home from classes

A Leaving Cert student died after a horrific car crash yesterday.

Sean O'Neill (17) from Ballyclough near Mallow died when the car he was driving overturned as it crashed off the road shortly after 4pm in north Cork.

No other vehicle is understood to have been involved.

Paramedics were on the scene within minutes but were unable to stabilise the teen's condition.

He was pronounced dead before he could be transferred to hospital.

Three other occupants of the car - two girls and a teenage boy - were treated at the side of the road, but were able to return to school.

The popular student was driving home after school when the accident happened.

In a separate incident a father of three was killed on his way to work yesterday.

The ambulance paramedic was killed after his car hit a pole.

David Fitzgerald, originally from Dublin, but living in Mountrath, Co Laois, was driving to Portlaoise when the accident happened at 6.20am.
