Lawyer says he's a Sinn Fein supporter
A DEFENCE barrister in the Michaela McAreavey murder trial revealed a strange political allegiance in court yesterday when he declared himself to be a supporter of Sinn Fein and its goal of a united Ireland.
In their closing speeches, both defence lawyers Rama Valayden and Sanjeev Teeluckdharry were at pains to point out that at no time during the case had they born any ill-will towards the people of Ireland.
Mr Valayden -- a former politician and Mauritian attorney general -- went as far as to align himself with Sinn Fein.
He declared: "I have also been a supporter of Sinn Fein."
