Killing of man (92) now a murder case

THE death of a 92-year-old pensioner in Co Limerick almost three years ago has been upgraded to a murder inquiry.

The body of James Mulqueen was discovered at his home at Kilmakeara, Kilcolman, Co Limerick on October 23, 2009 after neighbours in the close-knit community noticed he had not left his house to collect his pension as was customary.

It was initially thought his death was due to natural causes. However, when a post-mortem revealed broken bones, gardai began treating the death as suspicious.

Gardai are working to establish a motive. While there was no forced entry to the pensioner's home, there was evidence that the interior was disturbed.

Anyone with information is asked to call 1800 40 50 60.
