The fatal assault on a Slovakian father-of-two was not caught on CCTV footage despite extensive security camera coverage of the truck stop involved.

Garda sources indicated that the confrontation that led to the death of Ludovit Pastor (40) occurred in darkness between two articulated trucks - with another parked lorry blocking the coverage from CCTV.

Mr Pastor died after sustaining a severe blow to the head. Gardaí believe the weapon used was an iron bar later found underneath a parked lorry.

Two Polish truck drivers aged in their 40s and 20s were arrested for questioning about the circumstances in which Mr Pastor sustained fatal head injuries. They were released without charge last night.
