Killer of tragic teen stab victim Reece 'may not have acted alone'
Mobile phone records are being analysed by gardai investigating if the 14-year-old suspected killer of a Tallaght teenager was aided by others.
An inquest into the death of tragic Reece Cullen (16) heard he died of a stab wound to the chest.
The teenager died on January 5 after he was attacked near his Dublin home. The talented boxer, of Bawnlea Crescent, Jobstown, was rushed to Tallaght Hospital, where he later died as a result of his injuries.
It has now emerged that gardai are investigating if the killer had a “look-out or look-outs”. “The killer may not have acted alone and there may well be more arrests in this case,” a source said.
“Information has come in that the killer may have been helped by a person or people who acted as look-outs for him.
“An examination of mobile phone traffic may prove key to solving this.”
On Thursday, Detective Inspector John Walsh told the inquest the stabbing was under continued investigation by gardai.
The city’s coroner’s court heard how Mr Walsh asked for a six-month adjournment as criminal proceedings are being contemplated.
Coroner Dr Myra Cullinane adjourned the inquest until October 5.
The DPP is considering all the evidence in relation to a 14-year-old boy, who was arrested following the attack.
As well as the youth, a 29-year-old woman was arrested for withholding information in the case.
Sources have revealed that the woman arrested on Sunday was picked up after gardai carried out analysis of mobile phones linked to the case.
She is not a suspect in the fatal stabbing and is not believed to have been present when Reece was attacked.
A post-mortem examination determined that Reece suffered one stab wound to the heart when he was attacked.
Reece was discovered by a female neighbour bleeding to death at the foot of a staircase.
It is understood the row that led to the teen’s fatal stabbing was “minor issues between youngsters”.
An issue over a pellet gun “appears to have caused the friction”, a source said.
Reece’s girlfriend Sophie (17) has previously described how she was on the phone to him when the attack took place. It is not the first tragedy to strike the family after Reece’s mother Ann Marie Cullen died last September.
The innocent family had previously been intimidated by a notorious family in the area who are linked to a violent drug dealer.
Sources stated that the home of Ann Marie Cullen was attacked on several occasions in the months before her tragic death.
Hundreds of people gathered for his funeral, a week after the murder, which heard: “Reece is at peace now with the angels, the saints and his mum, Ann Marie.”
