Two men considered key players in the Drogheda gang feud have been arrested during four searches by armed gardaí in the town.

The raids happened as it can be revealed that rival gang boss Owen Maguire, who is paralysed, is due to be discharged from Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital this week after suitable accommodation has been found for him.

Mr Maguire has been receiving hospital treatment ever since he survived a feud-related shooting outside his home last July.

Yesterday's raids were targeting the gang who have been at war with the Maguire faction, and the arrested men, both aged 21, are thought to be key members of this faction and both are on bail in relation to a savage assault allegation.

Also raided yesterday was the home of a 24-year-old criminal who is considered the leader of the anti-Maguire faction. His brother (21) was being held in Dundalk garda station last night, with the other 21-year-old held by Drogheda gardaí.

Some €5,000 worth of cannabis and cocaine was seized in the raids.
