TAOISEACH Enda Kenny is still planning to give the abortion legislation as much time as it takes, despite last night's farcical scenes.

The abortion legislation debate has at least another two days to go in the Dail.

The Government has allocated seven hours for debate today, from 5pm to 12 midnight, with more time to be scheduled tomorrow - and possibly beyond.

Mr Kenny is concerned about being accused of cutting short the debate on the contentious legislation.

But the abortion debate has now been overshadowed by the "horseplay" in the Dail last night, when Fine Gael TD Tom Barry pulled his party colleague Aine Collins on to his lap while TDs were waiting for a vote.

The incident means the Government is unlikely to allow another overnight session of debate on the legislation.
