WHEN she's not using her fists to win gold, Katie Taylor is offering a helping hand to communities.
The Irish Olympic hero has teamed up with SPAR to promote its Helping Hand community fund, a new initiative designed to offer assistance to non-profit groups.
The scheme, sponsored by the Irish Independent and the 'Sunday Independent', has offered €50,000 worth of funding to community groups. There is an overall award of €10,000 up for grabs, along with five €2,800 awards and 26 €1,000 awards.
Groups can collect tokens from either newspaper to apply for funding from the scheme, established to mark SPAR's 50th anniversary in Ireland.
Funding will be awarded on the basis of local groups deemed to make an important contribution to their communities and in need of additional financial support to carry out their work.
