FROM the festively kitsch to the gloriously gaudy, hundreds of people gave their Christmas jumpers an early outing yesterday in a bid to set a world record.
At the final head count, 583 hardy souls braved the cold to take part in the inaugural Geansai Nollaig Day in Dublin city centre.
In the process they set a world record for the biggest gathering of seasonal sweater wearers in one place. While many opted for traditional woollen jumpers featuring snowmen and reindeer, the more adventurous got busy with tinsel and glitter-glue to create their own.
The event was organised by the Dublin City Business Improvement District (BID) in aid of the Barretstown camp for sick children.
BID chief executive Richard Guiney said he was delighted. "It's a great testament to the Irish sense of humour and also an excellent way to get people together and have fun."
