Abbotstown hosted the carnival of sport - a 'Super Saturday' if ever there was one - at the Community Games National Festival.

The games were the biggest event to be held at the National Sports Campus since it opened.

In its golden jubilee there were just under 3,000 children involved, across 18 different disciplines.

"I feel it's appropriate that our National Festival is being held in Dublin in this our jubilee year," Community Games president Gerard Davenport said.

CEO John Byrne said the event saw "huge crowds".

"It was a very successful day. Over 2,800 boys and girls were involved, it's something they'll remember for the rest of their lives," he said.
