John Dundon taken to hospital from prison
JOHN Dundon, who has been on hunger strike at Portlaoise Prison, has been taken by ambulance to hospital.
The 29-year-old of Hyde Road in Limerick was due to appear before the Special Criminal Court tomorrow to stand trial charged with the murder of innocent rugby player Shane Geoghegan.
Dundon had sought an adjournment of the case saying his lawyers had not been given sufficient time to got through the large volume of material furnished to them by gardai.
However the High Court last Friday rejected Dundon’s application and cleared the way for the trial to go ahead tomorrow.
Dundon has been refusing food for at least a week and began refusing water in recent days.
He was removed from Portlaoise Prison by ambulance shortly after 4pm and taken to hospital for treatment.
