Joe says 'Liveline' boost thanks to public
RTE broadcaster Joe Duffy attributed another massive boost in listeners to his 'Liveline' show as due to the fact that the show "belongs to the people".
The presenter is celebrating the sixth successive year of growth in the show's popularity after the three-monthly JNLR survey recorded a rise of 3,000 in listener figures.
With an audience of 431,000, the "talk to Joe" show is the second most listened to in the country, after 'Morning Ireland'.
Joe told the Irish Independent: "It is great to see that we continue to go up, it surprises and amazes me every time."
And the seasoned presenter said a key element of the programme's success was that it offered the public at large a soapbox for their worries and issues. "People like voicing their national concerns," he said.
"It's very much a people's programme and I'm keen to maintain that.
"Fingers crossed, we'll continue to do well. We try to keep our fingers on the pulse of the country," he added.
