Joanne Connolly, 16, from Kilkenny, spent Christmas at Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Crumlin, where she is awaiting a vital heart transplant operation. Joanne will have just four hours' notice between the news of a donor and being wheeled into the operating theatre at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. "My life depends on it," Joanne told the Sunday Independent, "my whole future." Since becoming increasingly ill during the summer, the aspiring opera singer has had to stay in the hospital around the clock. The Children's Heart Centre ward was recently transformed by public donations to a Fix Crumlin appeal. Photo: Tony Gavin
