Jill's family to welcome mayor of Melbourne suburb where she was murdered
THE MAYOR of the Melbourne suburb where Jill Meagher was murdered will get a "warm welcome" from her family when he visits her hometown next month.
Jill's aunt Catherine McKeon Halpin said the family here were delighted to hear Oscar Yildiz, mayor of Moreland Council, wanted to visit Drogheda.
"He wishes to express the regret of the people in Melbourne and it really is lovely that he is coming over. He will bring the condolences of the people of Australia and Melbourne with him. He can be assured he will get a warm welcome and we will extend open arms to him," Catherine added.
Mr Yildiz told the Mayor of Drogheda, Richie Culhane, of his visit and said Jill's death, "has left a legacy within our city and as a community and a council we have made changes and significant improvements to community safety".
