TEEN pop idols Jedward have backed Gay Byrne for President as the next best candidate for the post after, er, themselves.

The brothers -- attending a signing event in Cork -- rubbished the ageism argument and said Gaybo (77) would be likely to get their vote for Aras an Uachtarain.

Their endorsement came as they signed copies of their CD 'Victory' for hordes of fans at the MahonPoint shopping centre in Cork.

But the twins also admitted that, if they were to run, Gaybo would have no chance.

"If we were allowed to contest the election we would totally win," Edward said. But the only snag is that the twins are too young to run. "We need a referendum to get the age limit down to 20," he declared.
