Jazz king Cole and friends playing their annual concert for St Luke's

Paddy Cole (right) and friends are doing their annual gig for the The Friends of St Luke's in the National Concert Hall on Tuesday, October 23, at 8pm.

It features the Paddy Cole All Stars, The Wolseley Singers with Celtic Divas and the musical director for the evening is Regina Hanley. Tickets, €30, can be obtained from the NCH (01-4170000) or online from www.nch.ie

Revamped Savoy to re-open its doors

AFTER a refurbishment and re-design investment of over €3m, the Savoy Theatre in Cork city will re-open shortly, as a state of the art clubbing and live venue.

The venture is set to create 65 new jobs, 40 of those will be permanent positions, 15 of which will be full-time. The further 25 jobs will comprise local dancers and performers from Cork's vibrant culture scene.

Jason Denham, one of the operators behind the venture said: "The nightclub and pub sector is rapidly changing, due to the economic climate. We have learned to adapt to this new landscape very successfully through our work in Dublin club Lost Society and other Dublin venues."

Rock 'n' Rory night in aid of hospital

THE music of legendary guitarist Rory Gallagher and other rock and blues legends will be celebrated at a special fundraising event for Our Lady's Children's Hospital in next Saturday, October 20.

The second annual 'Rock 'n' Rory' night in Brady's Lounge, Maynooth, Co Kildare, features Gallagher tribute bands from as far away as Italy and Norway, and is headlined by the Dave McHugh band, featuring the former RTE producer. Admission is €7 (€3 students).
