'I've had no supply for a week'

A COUPLE spending the holidays at home with their two-year-old girl have just a "trickle" of water coming from their taps.

Danielle Ni Mheachair lives in the Paddocks housing estate in Carlow with her husband, Cian Moore, and their little girl, Eabha. Eabha was astonished to turn on the taps and find hardly any water coming out despite wet weather outside.

Her grandfather Mike Maher said the water went on Christmas Day and spoiled the occasion for many local people.

Luckily, he was having dinner with relatives, however some of his neighbours in the Paddocks were not so fortunate.

"There's no water coming into the house at all. I had to go to my parents' house to have a shower this morning," he added.

An 84-year-old woman who lives in Graiguecullen, on the outskirts of Carlow, has been without water for eight days.

"I've had no water for a week since yesterday. I rang the council and there's no point in ringing them. They said 'we'll see what we can do'.

"I left nine messages for them and rang my local councillor. Only for my neighbours, I'd have no water," said the woman, who asked not to be named.
