Leaving Cert: Your Complete Guide to the Results
Your Leaving Cert Results Supplement in this Wednesday's Irish Independent
THE anxious wait is almost over for almost 58,000 Leaving Certificate candidates, who will receive their results on Wednesday August 12.
The Irish Independent and Independent.ie are offering a range of supports to steer students and their parents through what can be a confusing period.
The Irish Independent will publish a special, 20-page supplement on Wednesday filled with information and advice on the next steps.
Whether a desired college place is a virtual certainty, or it is a time to consider all options, the supplement will steer school-leavers towards the decision that best suits them.
Guidance counsellor Aoife Walsh, a weekly columnist with the Irish Independent, will cover a range of possibilities, both inside and outside the CAO, highlighting the many opportunities out there, even for those who have no idea about what to do.
There will be inspiring stories about existing third-level students, with examples of interesting journeys to college and the world of work.
For those anxiously awaiting the release of the CAO Round One offers on Monday August 17, and who are wondering whether their results put them in the ball-park for entry to a preferred course, the supplement will contain tables detailing last year’s cut-off points for Level 8 and Level 7/6 programmes, although students are advised that points can vary widely from year to year.
The free phone Exam 2015 Helpline - 1800 265 165 - will open on Wednesday at 10 a.m, and professionally-qualified guidance counsellors will be on hand to give one to one answers to individual concerns.
The unique National Parents Council post primary (NPCpp) helpline is sponsored by the Irish Independent, eircom and the Department of Education and Skills. As well as member of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors, a representative of the grant-awarding body, SUSI will also be available to deal with queries.
The helpline will run for six days and the opening hours are: Wednesday August 12 and Thursday August 13, 10am-7pm; Friday August 14, 10am-1pm.
It will re-open on Monday August 17 to coincide with the release of CAO Round One offers. It will operate on Monday August 17 and Tuesday August 18, 8am-7pm and Wednesday August 19, 8am-1pm.
To complement the helpline, Independent.ie will be running an interactive CAO blog on Wednesday August 12 from 10am and again on Monday August 17 from 8am.
Professional guidance counsellors will be on hand to answer all your queries and concerns around further and higher education and career options.
You can send questions directly to the blog itself, tweet queries via #IndoSubmit or send emails to firstname.lastname@example.org.
