It's whiskey galore with €1bn target
SLANE Castle and the Liberties in Dublin are just some of the locations set to host at least 15 new Irish whiskey distilleries.
The distilleries are joining household names Jameson and Bushmills to form a new body, the Irish Whiskey Association (IW), which aims to bring in more than €1bn to the Irish economy in the next 10 years.
The association claims it will also support future entrants in the industry, ensure the application of legislation which prohibits other countries from making Irish whiskey and encourage the Government to support the sector's sustained growth.
Irish whiskey exports have grown 220pc since 2003 and are now valued at €350m.
Distilleries exported 6.2 million cases last year, and intend to double this figure by 2020, and double again to 24 million cases by 2030.
