It's Pride In the Name of Love for Bono's 'missus'

MORE than 200 lifesaving operations will be performed on impoverished children from Chernobyl following a major fundraising drive by the Ireland Funds.

Some €300,000 was raised at a major humanitarian award ceremony in Monaco, which honoured the work undertaken by Adi Roche, founder of Chernobyl Children International and patron Ali Hewson. The money is just a small part of the €100m raised by the charity since the disaster.

Ali's husband Bono attended the event. "I'm very proud indeed of the missus and Adi, two incredible women," he said.

The money will be used to send medics to the affected area, where they will correct a syndrome known as 'Chernobyl Heart', which affects 6,000 children in Ukraine every year.

The pair were presented with the Princess Grace Humanitarian Award for their work with the charity since 1986.
