'It's a day for the high stool' - Laois pub continues to operate despite flooding
Residents in a Laois town are experiencing severe flooding tonight with many being forced to leave their homes but one local pub is determined to keeps spirits high.
Michael Dowling, proprietor of Dowlings pub in Mountmellick, told Independent.ie that there is currently five or six inches of water in his pub but he is working away despite this.
"There's five or six inches of water in the bar but we'll keep working away anyways," he said.
"It's a day for the high stool," he added.
Tonight a nice sized crowd of locals have turned up to the pub Mr Dowling said.
In the case of his bar the flooding is unlikely to cause much damage as they have cement and tile floors.
