'It was a holiday from hell' - Mum outraged at 'appalling' housing conditions at Trabolgan holiday park

A mum-of-three said she had the "holiday from hell" after visiting the Trabolgan Holiday Village in Co Cork.
Patricia Goughran from Drogheda and her three kids, Kyle (12), Kayleigh (2) and Aoife (22-months) booked the holiday as a break before school starts.
"Myself and my three kids went down on Monday and we were really looking forward to a break before the kids started school.
"I'm a single mum so I wanted to do something close to home with the kids and I didn't feel comfortable going abroad with them so we thought Trabolgan would be a great idea."
Patricia said that the grounds at the holiday village were lovely and well-kept but the two-bedroom home she was staying in was "appalling".
"It was old and smelly. The furniture was run-down and disgusting.

"I paid €169 a night for me and my kids to stay in the fllth. I could have gotten a nice hotel for that price."
Patricia said that there was mould on the walls, condensation had built up on the windows and the furniture was old and smelly.
"The cot was so filthy that there was no way I was going to put my baby into it. In the end all three kids ended up in my bed.

"How is Trabolgan getting away with this? The advertisements for the houses are nothing like what they are in reality."

Patricia said that she complained to the manager, but her concerns weren't taken seriously.
"He said that he agreed the house was run-down and that there was some wear and tear. I couldn't believe that he put us in that house."
The mum-of-three said she was also "disgusted" by the communal areas.
"The pool was filled with condensation. There was no air conditioning or anything in the pool and the heat was unbelievable. I couldn't see through the windows at the pool the condensation was that bad.
"The roof in the activity centre was also dripping water."
She added that she's not concerned about getting her money back, but wants to warn other parents.

"People are coming down expecting a lovely family holiday, paying massive amounts of money and they are left with appalling conditions."
Her young family left on Thursday as they couldn't handle the "cold and smelly conditions any longer".
"I wanted to leave earlier. I had to wash everything when I got home to get rid of the damp smell. It was a holiday from hell."
Patricia said that the management at Trabolgan have now offered her a refund for her holiday.
In a statement, Trabolgan Holiday Village told Independent.ie that the "issue has been resolved with the guest in question".
