Island jarveys happy to use 'horse nappies'
JARVEYs on the Aran Islands have insisted they will not oppose planned regulations that will see horse nappies introduced to the islands.
Operators of horse and trap businesses which benefit from the more than 60,000 annual visitors to the islands off Galway say they are happy to use the dung catchers. Up to 20 jarveys currently operate on the islands.
Under new regulations planned by Galway County Council, operators will also be required to apply for a licence, pay a yearly registration fee of €50 and provide a tax clearance certificate. The plans are set to go on display around the county in the coming weeks and will be open to the public to view and make submissions.
