THIS rust bucket mini bus has seen better days.

And it’s hardly the best advertisement for the services of the Garda’s Community Relations Unit.

At 19 years old the bus is probably one of the oldest vehicles in the force’s fleet.

The 1996 Ford was spotted earlier this week on Parkgate Street, near Dublin’s Criminal Courts of Justice. It was parked behind a newer Ford patrol car.

The bus was speckled with rust and seems to have had a few scrapes too, with dents along the sides.

A Garda spokesperson was unable to confirm to if the almost 20-year-old is the oldest still in use in the fleet.

“Due to operational reasons we do not discuss ages of Garda vehicles”, he said.

The total Garda fleet is currently 2,522 vehicles.

Over 350 new vehicles were purchased for the fleet in 2014, at a cost of around €7m.

370 new vehicles are expected to be added to the fleet over the course of this year.
