An Irishman's striking image of a dock worker's hands beat competition from across the globe to claim a prize at the iPhone Photography Awards.

Cork man Brendan Ó Sé took first prize for his 'Dock Worker' image in the Photographer of the Year category, ahead of Yeow-Kwang Yeo of Singapore for 'The Performer', and Kuanglong Zhang of Shenzhen, China, for 'The City Palace'.

The overall grand prize winner was Sebastiano Tomada of New York City for his entry, 'Children of Qayyarah'.

Mr Tomada won an iPad Pro for his photo of children in war-torn Iraq, while Mr Ó Sé, Yeo and Zhang were presented with Apple watches.

Creator of the event Kenan Aktulun said the awards have grown hugely in the past 10 years.

Thousands of images, taken from photographers across 140 countries, entered into the competition.
