AN Irishman who was celebrating his upcoming 40th birthday with a holiday to the US has been killed in a road accident.

Francis Kenny (39) from Murroe, Co Limerick, died on Tuesday following a collision in Arizona.

He was travelling with two friends -- also from Limerick -- at the time. The trio were making their way from the Grand Canyon to Las Vegas when the accident occurred.

Mr Kenny's family were informed of his death yesterday. Along with three friends, Mr Kenny flew out of Shannon last week. He would have turned 40 on Monday.

Mr Kenny was a back-seat passenger in the vehicle which was struck by another car. Mr Kenny was the only son of Jim and Margaret Kenny.

Speaking to the Irish Independent last night his two younger sisters said they were still attempting to come to terms with the news of their brother's death.

Mr Kenny was due to return to Ireland tomorrow.
