Irishman feared drowned in New York
Mark O'Regan
An Irish man on a student work visa is believed to have drowned while rafting on the Delaware River along the New York-Pennsylvania border.
The 20-year-old got into difficulty while swimming beside the raft in the area of rapids near the town of Lumberland in New York.
The young man - who was not wearing a life jacket – was with a group of friends when the incident happened on Saturday afternoon.
A bystander, believed to be another rafter, attempted to rescue the man but got into difficulty and had to be saved by a passing raft.
A massive search was immediately launched but the student’s body has not yet been found.
