Irishman drowns after getting into difficulty swimming in Portugal

An Irishman has died after drowning in Portugal.

It is understood the man, who was in his 60s, got into difficulty while swimming near Lisbon on Friday night.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance.

No other details are known at this time.
