Irish troops to train in Estonia
IRISH troops could take part in exercises in Estonia as part of the EU Nordic battlegroup after the Baltic country offered itself as a training ground.
Estonian Defence Minister Mart Laar made the proposal, in Stockholm on Thursday, for the battlegroup to train in Estonia in 2013.
Mr Laaar said the EU battle group was the only force, besides the NATO Response Force, that was able to respond to security threats on short notice. Irish troops in the Nordic battlegroup have so far taken part in two exercises in the past three years in Sweden.
