Irish survivors of Thai plane crash travel home

THE three Irish girls who survived a plane crash in Thailand boarded a flight to Bangkok this morning and hope to return to their families as soon as possible, writes Caitrina Cody.

"We've had enough and just want to get back to normal life at this stage," Aoife Creamer (25) told the Irish Independent from her hotel on the island of Koh Samui in southern Thailand last night.

The girls were on their way to the famous "full moon party" on a nearby island on Tuesday when their aircraft slid on the runway, smashing into a control tower and causing the death of a pilot. Ms Creamer said neither she nor her friends had been scared of flying before the incident and were determined to remain confident during today's connection to Bangkok, where they will wait to catch a flight home to Ireland.

Ms Creamer, her sister Orlagh (20) and their friend Lesley Dowdall (23), from Swords, are calling quits on their dream holiday and have asked their airline to change their return dates to Dublin.

Koh Samui Airport reopened yesterday afternoon.
