Irish software helps to delay Alzheimer's

AN IRISH company has released revolutionary software which has the potential to delay the onset of Alzheimer's disease by up to five years.

The software, which has been developed by Brain Care Ireland, helps in the effective treatment of the illness through fun and interactive games specially designed for targeted stimulation of key cognitive functions.

James Lee, scientific director of Brain Care Ireland, based at the Research and Innovation Centre in NUI Galway, said that early intervention in diseases such as Alzheimer's was key.

"This product is not a cure for Alzheimer's, but research has shown when used for as little as six months it can delay the onset and progress of the disease by up to five years. Potentially, this could keep people in their own homes longer and save on nursing home costs."
