Irish siblings in Cairo may be held for months
THE FAMILY of Irish siblings detained in Egypt now fear they may be detained for months.
The children of the Imam of the Islamic Cultural Centre in Clonskeagh, Dublin, were arrested after a protest against the overthrow of President Mohammed Morsi turned violent at Ramses Square in Cairo city.
All four – Omaima (20), Fatima (22), Somaia (28) and their brother Ibrihim (17) – were taken before a prosecutor at the weekend.
But he failed to make a decision on whether to release or charge them. They have now been detained for a further 15-days.
"We worry – does that mean they are going to keep them a few months?" said their sister, Nosayba.
