Irish rugby women are ready to take on the world
The Irish women's rugby side got the thumbs up from President Michael D Higgins as they prepared to take on the world of rugby.
Ireland will historically host the Rugby World Cup for the first time, with the first round of games kicking off this evening.
The women - who are without inspirational captain Niamh Briggs - are making their tournament debut against Australia in UCD at 7.45pm.
President Higgins presented the team with their jerseys, while Sports Minister Shane Ross also passed on his best wishes.
"I want to wish the squad, management and all the backroom staff every success as they begin their journey," Mr Ross said.
"We are all excited to be hosting this tournament. There is huge support as evidenced by the sold-out games, and I know the squad will want to get off to a good start against Australia."
