Irish refrigeration mechanic killed in Darwin gas bottle blast

AN IRISHMAN has been killed following a gas bottle explosion in Darwin, Australia.

The 24-year-old refrigeration mechanic was killed when a gas bottle in his van ignited as he started the vehicle just after 6:30am in Parap, according to local reports.

The blast reportedly shattered nearby windows and was heard for kilometres around.

Northern Territory police confirmed the man’s death but would not comment on his nationality.

The young man was on his way to work when the blast occurred.

Police are continuing their investigations and the body has yet to be removed from the scene by a coroner, according to the Irish Echo newspaper.
