An Irish Lotto player has had a quick turn around in luck after missing a deadline to claim a €250,000 prize.

The winning ticket for the Lotto Plus 2 was sold in Supervalu on Railway Road in Kenmare, Co Kerry three months ago.

However, nobody came forward to collect their winnings - despite the National Lottery issuing a number of pleas.

Ticket holders have 90 days to claim their prize.

A lotto spokesperson said: "In accordance with the licence, all unclaimed prizes are used to promote the National Lottery and so increase the funds raised for good causes.

"We promote unclaimed prizes on our own digital channels in-store, nationwide and in local and national media, to enhance the prospect of them being collected.

"Typically around two per cent (approx.) remain unclaimed in any given year."
