Irish Olympians set gold standard
The 126-strong team earned 14 medals yesterday, bringing their tally to 34. Paul Bridgman from Cork and Michael Hardiman from Dublin took gold in the doubles bowling event. Ciaran Mallon from Co Down and Jonathon Griffin from Co Galway also earned bowling gold.
There were gymnastics medals for Carole Ryan from Wexford and Laura Rumball from Dublin. In equestrian events, Steven Yeman, Donaghadee, Co Down, won gold. Conor MacGearailt, Athy, Kildare; Pamela Collins, Kanturk, Cork; and Sally Duffy, Dublin, all took silver. In football, the men's team beat India 5-1 and the five-a-side men's team beat Finland 2--0.
