Irish nail bar delight after Saoirse plug on 'Ellen'
Dublin nail bar Tropical Popical has been reaping the rewards after Saoirse Ronan repeatedly plugged the salon on Ellen DeGeneres's chat show.
Saoirse (21) was getting her nails done at the South William Street salon in November when she got the call informing her she had received a Golden Globe nomination for 'Brooklyn'.
The actress spoke about the moment on the popular US show, and repeatedly mentioned the salon's name.
"I think you might get your nails done there for free next time," DeGeneres said when Saoirse finished the story.
After the programme aired, 'The Ellen Show' tweeted a montage video of Saoirse reiterating the salon's name.
"In case you were wondering, Saoirse gets her nails done at Tropical Popical," they captioned the clip.
Andrea Horan, owner of the salon, says she had no idea Saoirse would plug the salon so heavily during the interview.
"You couldn't buy that sort of advertisement," she said.
"We got a call the day before from a lady saying 'This is The Ellen Show'.
"The girl who answered the phone thought it was a joke and was like 'Cop on' but then realised it was real.
"We thought they were just going to use a picture from our Instagram page so we were delighted with how the interview went."
Since the programme aired Ms Horan says they have received calls and emails from Saoirse's Stateside fans.
"They've been saying they want to come and visit when they come to Dublin," she said.
"Others have just been saying hello. It's been great."
Ms Horan says Saoirse regularly calls into the salon. "She comes in for her nails and the chats."
