IRELAND'S top newspaper has teamed up with one of the country's most famous racing events.

The Irish Independent is the proud new sponsor of the Irish Greyhound Laurels.

The sponsorship was confirmed at a gala event at Curraheen Park Greyhound Stadium in Cork.

The sponsorship deepens the Irish Independent's commitment to Irish sport, with the Cork home of Munster Rugby already re-branded as Irish Independent Park.

Irish Independent marketing manager Arlene Regan said it was a proud day for everyone.

Irish Greyhound Board chairman Phil Meaney hailed the sponsorship as a major boost.

The Laurels runs from April 11 to May 9.
