Irish footie fans spent €167m at British games
IRISH fans spent €167m last year to watch their favourite football teams in Britain.
Despite the recession, 174,000 people crossed the Irish Sea to watch the English Premier League with teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United being most popular. It was an increase of 10,000 on the previous year.
The figures were released by the UK's state tourism agency VisitBritain.
Old Trafford remained the top choice for international football fans last year, followed by Anfield, the Emirates Stadium and Stamford Bridge.
