Irish fishing trawler rescues five members of stricken Scottish vessel
AN IRISH fishing trawler rescued five members of a Scottish fishing crew after their vessel got into difficulty off the south-west coast.
All five crew of the Scottish-registered vessel were safely taken on board a Dingle-registered trawler before their own vessel foundered and sank.
The Dingle-based boat is now transferring the five Scottish fishermen to Castletownbere in west Cork.
None of the five were injured.
However, they will be given precautionary medical assessments before being taken for hot food.
Arrangements will later be made for their transfer back to the UK.
It is understood their vessel began taking on water off the Cork-Kerry coast shortly before midnight.
However, the men had sufficient time to launch life rafts and abandon their boat.
The Irish fishing vessel was operating in waters close by and immediately came to the aid of the men.
