An Irish couple picked up a cheque for €500,000 at the National Lottery Offices in Dublin today after winning last night’s Lotto Plus 1 draw.

The lucky couple were accompanied by their 10-year-old son, who said his dad “went like a ghost” when he saw the Lotto results last night.

The shocked dad said: “I was out walking last night when the Lotto draw was on and I checked the numbers on my phone when I got home.  I couldn’t believe it.”

His wife, who was on her way to work at the time of the draw, said: “I’m not a religious person but as I was driving to work, I thought, Dear God, please can we win the Lotto. And then it happened!”

The family are already planning what to do with their winnings: “We’ll get a new car and do-up the house and then take a nice holiday next year.”

The Monaghan husband bought his ticket in the Oriel Service Station on the Dublin Road in Dundalk yesterday.

He played his own numbers, which he has been using for 25 years.

There was no winner of the overall Lotto jackpot last night. This Saturday’s jackpot is up to €5.5 million.
