An Irish couple are recovering after they were attacked by a group of ‘vicious’ raccoons while walking their dogs on a trip to San Francisco.

Brendan O’Sullivan and his wife were visiting their daughter on the west coast of America when they were reportedly rushed by more than a dozen racoons while walking their daughter’s two dogs.

Mr O’Sullivan told Irish Central how they believed one of the dogs was going to be killed.

“In the group there were at least 12-15 [raccoons] but there were four vicious big raccoons that were actually doing the fighting,” he said.

“We thought [the dog] was killed, they were actually dragging him away.”

The dogs sustained minor injuries in the attack and the woman had to receive a rabies shot as a safety precaution.

A spokesperson for San Francisco Animal Care and Control said officers are doing precautionary patrols in the area of the attack.

They have also consulted wildlife experts on what possible steps to take next.
