Irish biker killed in Malaysia crash

AN Irish tourist has died in Malaysia after his rented motorcycle collided head-on with a lorry.

Desmond Francis Walsh (48) was holidaying with two Irish friends in the eastern state of Sabah when his motorcycle collided with the lorry travelling in the opposite direction.

Garda probe into priest withdrawal

GARDAI last night confirmed that they are investigating a priest who has been mysteriously "withdrawn from ministry" at a local parish.

However an official at the Diocese of Ferns, where the priest was based said that he was a curate and worked in the diocese for 18 months.

Jail suspended for growhouse mum

A mother-of-five has been given a four-year suspended sentence after she was forced to turn her home into a cannabis grow house by a criminal she owed money to.

A Dublin court heard that Karen Oakes (31), who has no previous criminal record, told gardai that she had lost money belonging to the criminal. Oakes of Croftwood Park, Ballyfermot, Dublin pleaded guilty to the cultivation of cannabis plants at her home on June 16, 2011.

Lip-tear boy wins €17,700 damages

A THREE-YEAR-OLD boy who suffered "a rip injury" to his lip in a creche has been awarded €17,700 damages

Luke Hyland, now aged seven, had run into the back of a chair while playing in the Jobstown Childcare Centre, Tallaght, Co Dublin. Luke, from Tallaght, had been under supervision during playtime in the centre on December 19, 2008.
