Ireland's second-oldest person Biddy dies at 106

Eoin McGarvey

IRELAND's second-oldest person has died -- just three months short of her 107th birthday.

Bridget 'Biddy' McGee previously revealed the secret to her long and healthy life was early to bed, early to rise and a daily glass of milk.

The 106-year-old, from Annagry, Co Donegal, passed away at the weekend at Dungloe District Hospital. She is survived by her two sons, one daughter and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Friends of Biddy said she was hale and hearty all her life, and recalled that at her birthday last October, she partied at a local pub into the early hours.

The oldest person in the country is understood to be Mary Kate Byrne, of Maganey, Co Laois, who will turn 108 in August.
