Ireland's oldest woman dies at the age of 108
IRELAND'S oldest woman has died at the age of 108.
Mary Kate Byrne, also known as Poppy, was born on August 14, 1904.
The resident of Grange Maganey, Co Kildare, never smoked or drank alcohol, but enjoyed a daily fry-up.
She was also an avid reader of the Irish Independent every day.
Her remains will be removed from the Killeen Church in Maganey at 7.30pm on Wednesday followed by Requiem Mass at 11am on Thursday.
