A man who is believed to be Ireland’s oldest person has died.

Mr Luke Dolan, who born in 1906, died at Colverhill nursing home in co Roscommon on Sunday evening.

Mr Dolan was born and lived much of his life on his family farm in Stokestown. Mr Dolan was one of seven children and his sister Mary Kate lived to the age of 106 years of age.

His own grandfather lived to 104 and, with other sisters living well into their nineties.

A father of seven himself, Mr Dolan’s wife Peggy passed away in 2005.

His funeral will take place on Wednesday.
