Ulster's Craig Gilroy came on to the pitch with half an hour to go in Rome and scored a hat-trick of tries as Ireland cruised past Italy yesterday.

One would have thought that would be enough to win man-of-the-match award for the 25-year-old Belfast man, but Munster's CJ Stander already had that accolade in the bag with three tries of his own as Ireland crushed the home side 63-10.

Young Leinster star Garry Ringrose also touched down as Ireland put on a bravura Six Nations performance.

Stander was almost gladiatorial as he swatted aside the Italian cover for his hat-trick of tries. He was unstoppable.

The four-try bonus point was secured in jig time and Jackson notched nine conversions from nine attempts.

Captain Jamie Heaslip said: "We never get too carried away - last week was a tough loss. We had to correct ourselves in clinical moments."
