Intern posts taken off web after probe

Edel O'Connell

MORE than 200 posts had to be removed from the Government's €20m jobs initiative website following investigations by the Department of Social Protection.

The department said it has been inundated with applications from companies wishing to sign up to its JobBridge internship scheme since it opened to applicants in July.

However, the scheme has been criticised by jobseekers over the quality of internships on offer.

This week the department confirmed it has so far removed 200 posts from the website as they were deemed unsuitable.

A spokesman added many more have been removed by companies themselves following investigations.

Under the scheme, interns who work 40 hours a week get an allowance of €50 a week on top of social-welfare payments.
