Injured man leapt from balcony after knife row

A POLISH man and woman were being treated for stab wounds last night following a row in an apartment in Sligo, writes Anita Guidera.

Gardai were called to the scene in the Market Yard in Sligo at around 4.30pm yesterday, where a woman in her late-20s was found with multiple stab wounds.

Gardai gave chase on foot to a man who had jumped from the first-floor balcony of the apartment and fled in the direction of nearby St Joseph's Terrace. The man was arrested and taken to Sligo garda station. He was found to have sustained a head injury from the jump and had a stab wound to his stomach.

A garda said the man, in his early 30s, was bleeding profusely and was transferred to Sligo General Hospital. Last night, the woman underwent surgery. Her condition remains critical. They are believed to be boyfriend and girlfriend.
