Independent TD seeking High Court injunction to block vote on abortion bill
INDEPENDENT TD Mattie McGrath is going to the High Court to seek to prevent the abortion bill from being voted through by the Dail.
He was criticised by Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin, who said it it was extraordinary for a TD to challenge a bill when it had not even been passed by the Dail.
Mr McGrath said that he was making the move because the bill did not respect the verdict of the people in two abortion referendums. He is going to be joined in the High Court injunction application by former Munster MEP Kathy Sinnott and Mark McCrystal - the Dublin engineer who won a Supreme Court case against the Government in relation to its "biased" information booklet in the children's referendum.
